QPR Institute Founder Recognizes the Possible Always Vision for Peer-Integrated Suicide Care

Possible Always is honored to have received a letter of support from Paul G. Quinnett, Ph.D., Founder and Chairman of QPR Institute, a national leader in suicide prevention training and education.

For more than four decades, Dr. Quinnett’s work in suicide prevention, including the development of the Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) model, has helped expand the number of people equipped to recognize and respond to suicide risk. Through this work, QPR Institute has helped train millions of community gatekeepers worldwide, strengthening the capacity of communities to identify warning signs, offer hope, and connect people to support. QPR is the most widely distributed suicide prevention public health intervention in the world.

In his letter, Dr. Quinnett recognized the need for a new generation of trained responders who are prepared to provide timely, suicide-focused support when people are in distress. He described the importance of developing community-based “super gatekeepers” who have both the knowledge and confidence to intervene effectively in real time.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it aligns closely with the Possible Always vision for a peer-integrated crisis support system. Our model is grounded in the belief that identifying risk is only the first step. Communities also need a compassionate, skilled workforce capable of offering immediate human connection, reducing suicide risk, and helping individuals navigate pathways to care, recovery, and belonging.

Dr. Quinnett also expressed support for the development of Peer Pathfinder-trained suicide care first responders, noting the powerful role individuals with lived experience can play when supported by evidence-informed training and a structured system of care.

At Possible Always, we believe lived experience, when paired with training, support, and intentional service design, can become a powerful force for hope and connection. Peer- integrated crisis care has the potential to expand capacity, strengthen continuity, and help reach people who may never access traditional services.

We are grateful for Dr. Quinnett’s visionary leadership and this meaningful recognition of the Possible Always vision, to strengthen Florida’s suicide prevention infrastructure while helping pioneer a new generation of trained community responders.
